World Kidney Day 2012
"june's work for world kidney day
Spring 2012 proved to be one of the busiest periods for costume designer, June, this year so far. With her impressive Victorian outfits being the unique centrepiece of a charity fashion show, held at the Penyrheol Theatre, Gorseinon, for World Kidney Day, 6th March 2012.
The evening was organised by Kath Bedingham , 29, from Loughor, who suffers from a critical kidney condition herself. Kath had decided to hold the charity evening, to raise awareness to potential donors, and also much needed funds for the kidney units at Morriston Hospital, Swansea and The Heath Hospital, Cardiff. Kath, herself will be undergoing a kidney transplant later in the month, which is to be donated by her mother Fran George.
With a capacity audience booked, and a spectacular evening of entertainment ahead, June’s amazing costumes formed the centrepiece of the event. With several new outfits added to the collection in the lead up to the show, both child and adult models came on stage in an array of historically realistic garments, supported by a most intriguing and educational narrative from June.
The performance was an overwhelming success, culminating in a spectacular finale of all the models in period fashion, and the entrance of “Queen Victoria” herself , played by Kath’s Mum, Fran. Thanks to June’s amazing dressmaking skills, and her generosity in bringing her live show to the event, along with the other acts performing on the night, nearly £2,000 was raised for Kath’s World Kidney Day appeal.
Kath and Fran have now undergone major surgery, with a successful transplant resulting, and a new lease of life for Kath."
